Completion of Intermediate Wheel Throwing or equivalent proficiency

Clay Usage Parameters

• Clay weight per piece: 1kg and above (as appropriate to form)
  
• Maximum fired pieces: Up to 8 pieces
• Fired pieces are subject to form complexity and studio guidelines

Lesson 1

• Introduction to container
• Understanding form planning and measurements
• Throwing basic container bodies and “hat” lid
  

Lesson 2

• Trimming containers and lids for fit
• Understanding lid fit, shrinkage, and clay memory
  

Lesson 3

• Introduction to galleries, flanges, and seated lids
• Creating pots with galleries and flanges
  

Lesson 4

• Trimming of pots and lids
  

Lesson 5

• Introduction to wheel thrown Boxes
• Alignment of lid and body of Boxes
  

Lesson 6

• Trimming of boxes
  

Lesson 7

• Introduction to wax resist on lidded containers
• Wax resist application to lidded containers and boxes
  

Lesson 8

• Glazing strategies for containers and boxes
  

Course Outcomes

Learners will complete and fire:

• Lidded containers
• Boxes with fitted lids
• Multi-part ceramic forms
