  • Maximum fired pieces: Up to 8 pieces

*Lessons will be conducted during these timings each week


Weekly Lesson Breakdown

Lesson 1

  • Handling and centering 1 kg of clay
  • Introduction to shaping and bellying techniques
  • Throwing basic pots and vases
  • Skill assessment to determine appropriate clay quantity (1 kg onwards)

Lesson 2

  • Continued throwing of pots and vases
  • Exploration of shaping, proportion, and form refinement

Lesson 3

  • Trimming of pots and vases
  • Introduction to the use of chucks for trimming taller or enclosed forms

Lesson 4

  • Throwing pourer-related forms such as jugs and sake bottles
  • Introduction to spout creation using the snip technique

Lesson 5

  • Trimming of pourer-related forms
  • Introduction to handle-making and attachment techniques

Lesson 6

  • Throwing flatware: plates and shallow dishes

Lesson 7

  • Trimming of plates and flatware

Lesson 8

  • Glazing techniques: dipping and brushing


Course Outcomes

Learners will complete and fire up to 8 finished pieces, including:

  • Pots and vases 
  • Bottles and pourers (jugs/sake bottles)
  • Plates and flatware

Studio firing charges apply for additional fired pieces
